Juanma by el Cuco’s new collection

Photography: Juanma by El Cuco

Today 17th of March 2014 we present in exclusive for Made in Barcelona the images of the new collection for the winter season 2014 – 2015 by Juanma by el Cuco.
This is a collection designed for a young, dynamic public who also likes sports. The designer’s passion for travelling can be seen in its style, which is inspired by one of his trips in Glasgow, Scotland.  He exported the influence of the wools, the squares, the patchwork, and the neckwear’s tissues, etc. He also put into the pieces of clothing the British atmosphere, those grey days with little light, and with dark tonalities…

“It is all pretty eclectic and it mixtures a classic look with a futuristic touch”. Juanma, for example, has designed one piece based in the typical commercial sweater and he has plasticized it with an oilskin tissue, specially created for rainy days. This way, he has created original pieces aimed to a daily use.

Photography given by Eli Urpí

Eliurpí is a romantic and feminine fashion brand specialized in millinery. Elisabet Urpí, the designer, and Nacho, her boyfriend, are in charge of the brand. Their clothes dress an elegant and cosmopolitan woman, inspired in the Parisian woman from the 40s and 50s.

How did “Eliurpí” start?

The brand started four years ago, although the shop became one year old this march 2014. At the beginning we only worked on millinery, and now we are working on the fourth clothing collection. The hats are 100% handcrafted, from the beginning to the end. We design the clothes and we make the drawings, although then we send them to a studio that collaborates with us.

Juanma Granero is the designer of the brand Juanma by El Cuco. Art is very present in all his designs, but always adapted to clothes that can be dressed everyday. He confesses to be guided by his mood when creating, just this way he achieves a very personal and easy to identify style.

How would you define your brand?

The brand has evolved a lot. I started in 2008, with an aesthetic very focused to catwalks, to the image, forgetting the commerciality. The brand is so much more personal now. People from Barcelona who works in the fashion industry easily identifies my designs. My clothes have been adapted to a daily style, they are easier to wear.

An important message

This is an important message to all our readers:

We know you can see there are more posts in the blog in Spanish. We try to keep both blogs updated at the same time, but we are from Spain so we write our posts in Spanish and then translate them to English and not the other way round, and sometimes it is difficult to translate as fast as we prepare posts. We want you to know we try to do it the best we can and we care as much for you as we do for all our Spanish readers.

Thank you so much for your understanding!

Interview to Patricia Benitez, La Chica de Papel's founder

Photography: Natalia Garcia

We meet with Patricia Benitez in “Galeria Cosmo”, a place that harmoniously combines a café with an exquisite art gallery. Its decoration is extremely beautiful and colorful, and it offers an ideal environment to talk about the brand La Chica de Papel, for its similarity with the young and sweet artistic concept…

How would you define what fashion means for you?
I define fashion as a way of personal expression: it is what you wear, what you are and the image you give to the world. I think about fashion as a way of absolute free expression, and that’s why I love it when people adapt their closet to their personalities and they dress as they want, not caring if it is trendy or not. The important thing is to dress it the right way, I mean, you have to feel comfortable in it. For me, this is fashion.

Manuel Curzcastillo has shown today for the first time his desings in the 080 Barcelona Fashion’s catwalk. His collection goes after the title “M.G.” in honor to his father, Miguel González, and it explains the public the designer’s vital story. “It is one of the most intimate and more personal implicated collections of all the ones I have ever designed”. The very personal line tells the public a loss, a goodbye and a reunion, all of it using cold colors.

Welcome!

Behind the title “Made in Barcelona” (“Hecho en Barcelona” in Spanish) we want to create a space where the fashion from the catalan city is the main protagonist. With this target, we will cover all those events related with the textile sector, a sector which has been working really well this last years in Barcelona. The events will go from the most important ones, like the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week, to others like the opening of little shops of designers from Barcelona who are, for now, still unknown.
We are very happy to start this initiative and we hope you are as interested as we are in this subject!
Thank you for reading!
