Craft and vanguardism in The Avant

In Enric Granados Street, 106 (Barcelona), we can find The Avant, Silvia Garcia Presas’ brand.

The singular space has a Mediterranean inspired decoration which shows the timeless and artisanal style of the brand in a perfect way. You can find very special clothes, made in a very caring way. They don’t follow fashion trends, The Avant’s key is creating clothes that, although being of the present time, are also timeless. Their clothes are addressed to an exigent and cosmopolitan woman who bets for quality, the use of natural materials and manual work.

The Avant doesn’t work for collections, its clothes are constantly renovated in small productions. This way, the brand accomplishes unique and exclusive clothes. Behind a curtain at the back of the shop, there is the Atelier. It is in constant activity, and loads of the clothes we can find on the shop come from there. But not all of them. Various dressmakers around Barcelona are the responsible to sew Silvia’s projects. Each one of them working in their specialization, because it is not the same making a dress than some pants, and The Avant knows it. They only can get a results in which little details are so important by working this way.

But The Avant’s work doesn’t finish in fashion. The shop also counts with a little space called “Primitiu” (primitive in catalan), that is dedicated to sell artisanal objects the designer has recollected in her numerous trips.
The brand has been in the market since September 2003. Its designer, Silvia Garcia Presas, studied in the Escuela de Artes y Técnicas de la Moda, and then graduated in the Royal College of Art in London.

The Avant has participated in other events as Murcia’s “Pasarela Abierta” (Spain) and the “Gwand Fashion Show” in Lucerne, Switzerland. Besides, it received the price from North America “Gen Art’s Styles 2005”, intended for emerging talents.
