Designer from Catalonia Josep Abril has won the award of the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week thirteenth edition for his collection “REFLECTIONS”. He has received a 20.000 euros price.
In this edition, the international jury is formed by the international sales and purchases' adviser and jury president Song Pham; Holt Renfrew’s fashion consultant Victoria de la Fuente; stylist, fashion brands’ consultant and journalist Anna Vallés Recanses; Moda Standard Magazine’s director and founder of Modaclic.com Perrine Muller and the Plataforma de Escuelas de Moda de Barcelona founder Oscar Heredero. The collection facts in which the jury has put their focus had been its sobriety and elegance, as well as the fact that the collection itself is a combination of the three special best valued qualities: creativity, quality and its marketability and international projection.
“REFLECTIONS” is a collection based in minimalist and functional designs, which at the same time plays with very well-worked forms. Abril has maintained himself firm with his most classic propositions in a great quantity of his dresses and coats, and with the black’s almost absolute predominance, he has made a step forward. But this time he as preferred to create riskier pieces with disorganized and unequal patters, like it can be seen on the dungarees. It can be said that Abril’s strong bet have been overlapping squares in the whole ensemble and the braided wool blue sweaters with designs almost impossible to understand.
The designer Georgina Vendrell has received a jury special mention for her collection “DUALISM”, a proposal based in contrasts and the union of opposite concepts with an harmonic and balanced result. Finally, the award for merchandising products has ended up in Sabine Schwinding’s hands, who has won the 080 Design Contest.
